The Ayala Jazz Program consists of Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band, is becoming one of the more competitive Jazz programs in the area.  They are under the direction of Mr. Jim Rogers.

Jazz Ensemble is audition based and rehearses all year round during 1st period.  They rehearse and perform many styles of music; Swing, Afro-Cuban, Latin, Samba, Rock, Funk, Contemporary, and Avant-garde to name a few. Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sammy Nestico, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, and Gordon Goodwin are just some of the many composer's music we perform. Jazz Ensemble rehearses many charts over the Fall semester and can play an hour or more of music at anytime throughout the school year.  They attend six Jazz Festivals during the Spring Semester; five are local; Esperanza HS, Irvine HS, Fullerton College, Mt. SAC, & RCC Jazz Festivals.  They also attend the prestigious Reno Jazz Festival, a four day event at the end of April where over 300 performing groups from around the nation come to compete, and world renown Jazz musicians, clinicians, educators, and composers judge the event.  2016 will be the 54th annual event. This year, the Grammy Award Winning band, 'Snarky Puppy' will be performing in concert on Friday night.
